A Legacy That Begins at Home

Our journey began in 1956 when Alan Reid started building trailers in his Auckland home. With a careful eye for detail and a strong focus on quality, Alan turned his business into New Zealand’s biggest boat trailer maker.

His reputation for making strong, reliable boat trailers in NZ made him a trusted name among boat owners. They knew their precious cargo would be transported with confidence and security.

Recognising a Problem in the Industry

As time passed, the trailer industry faced new challenges. Traditional steel trailers, while sturdy, were highly susceptible to rust—reducing their lifespan and reliability.

Cheaply made aluminum trailers often do not have the strength to hold heavy loads. This can cause cracks and failures. The market lacked a solution that could offer both durability and performance.

Born from Frustration, Driven by Innovation

Glen Reid, following in his father’s footsteps, understood these challenges firsthand. However, it was a frustrating experience with a rental trailer that truly ignited his passion for change.

When the trailer failed him at a critical moment, he realised there had to be a better way. This important experience led him to create the world's first low loading, aluminium lowering trailer, made specifically for cars. This innovation started Futura Trailers.

This breakthrough inspired an even bigger question: How could boat trailers be reimagined for superior performance and longevity?

What if they were designed with the perfect balance of strength, functionality, and aesthetics?

Glen dedicated himself to answering these questions. He used advanced engineering and his family's strong background in trailer manufacturing.
